Blood is the primary transport medium of the body. Oxygen enters blood in the lungs and is carried to cells; and carbon dioxide, produced by cells, is carried in blood to the lungs, where it is expelled. Ingested nutrients, electrolytes, and water are transported by the blood from the digestive tract to cells, and waste products are transported from cells to the kidneys for elimination in urine.
